Interviewing the Future President

If you were interviewing somebody to become new president of the United States, what would you ask him/her?

  1. How have you been involved in the government in the past?
  2. What has been your greatest accomplishment?
  3. How have you been involved in your community?
  4. If you could change one thing about this country, what would it be and how would you go about it?
  5. What do you think is the biggest problem/issue with this country that needs to be resolved? How will you go about resolving it?
  6. Would you consider yourself more liberal or conservative when it comes to social views? What are your social views?
  7. What is your opinion on the current state of the economy?
  8. Which past president is your favorite/are you most inspired by? Why?
  9. Will your policies/the way you run things be affected by your religious views?
  10. How do you think the tax money should be spent?

Logos from Hollywood ... and two from Orlando

1. Disney. I picked the Disney logo because it's been a part of my life for very long. Just looking at it makes the music play in my head. I'd love to work for Disney someday.

2. The V for Vendetta Insignia. Not technically a logo, but still sort of used like one.  I chose this logo because V for Vendetta is one of my favorite movies and this sign has actually been used in other instances, such as protests.

3. Two for the price of one! The classic Nikelodeon bug next to its modern counterpart. Back in the 90's, as soon as you saw the orange splat, you knew what was going on. Since then, the logo has evolved into a more sleek and contemporary, yet still recognizable design.

If I Were a Boss ...

So let's pretend I'm the owner of a new hat shop at the mall called Fedorable. I need to hire two people for the sales floor. Of course there are many great qualities that an employee can have. These are my top 5:

1. Punctuality
Being on time is prudent for a smoothly running business. If one person is late to work, then everything gets set behind and everyone is inconvenienced.

2. Good Customer Service
I want to sell as many hats as possible. That simply can not happen if my employees don't pay attention to the customers.

3. Positive Attitude
Not only would an employee have to pay attention to the customers, but they'd need to make a good impression on them. Being upbeat and positive sends a good message about my company and makes gets people to want to buy hats from me.

4. Professional Attitude
An employee should be professional as well as positive. They should take their work seriously.

5. Motivation
If you want to work at my hat store then you'll have to do just that. Work. No sitting around and no goofing off.

Here are five examples of behaviors that might get somebody fired from Fedorable.

1. Being late to work or not showing up.

2. Being rude to customers or other employees.

3. Being disrespectful to me as their boss.

4. Napping on the job.

5. Using company equipment/merchandise for personal use. For example, using the store's computer for personal use/entertainment or playing with the hats that are for sale.

What WIA Means to Me

Being apart of WIA has allowed me to take many opportunities in life that I wouldn't have been able to take without it.

In 11th and 12th grade I was involved with an organization called SkillsUSA. In this organization I competed in Television and Video production and I did well enough to compete at the state level for two years in a row. Traveling to Grand Rapids and competing with the top students in the state isn't free, however. This was when I was introduced to WIA. Because my family doesn't make a whole lot of money, WIA paid for all of my expenses so I was able to go to the SkillsUSA State Conference and have the time of my life. For this, I am forever indebted to WIA.

When I found out about the WIA Summer Program I immediately jumped on the opportunity and I do not regret it. Working here has allowed me to brush up on my media skills as well as my professional skills such as work ethic. It has also been a way to me to give back to the program by offering my skills and time. The money I've earned has allowed me to travel and experience more in my life that I would have been able to otherwise.

WIA has acted as a stepping stone for me to reach my goals and grow as a professional.
