What WIA Means to Me

Being apart of WIA has allowed me to take many opportunities in life that I wouldn't have been able to take without it.

In 11th and 12th grade I was involved with an organization called SkillsUSA. In this organization I competed in Television and Video production and I did well enough to compete at the state level for two years in a row. Traveling to Grand Rapids and competing with the top students in the state isn't free, however. This was when I was introduced to WIA. Because my family doesn't make a whole lot of money, WIA paid for all of my expenses so I was able to go to the SkillsUSA State Conference and have the time of my life. For this, I am forever indebted to WIA.

When I found out about the WIA Summer Program I immediately jumped on the opportunity and I do not regret it. Working here has allowed me to brush up on my media skills as well as my professional skills such as work ethic. It has also been a way to me to give back to the program by offering my skills and time. The money I've earned has allowed me to travel and experience more in my life that I would have been able to otherwise.

WIA has acted as a stepping stone for me to reach my goals and grow as a professional.
