If I Were a Boss ...

So let's pretend I'm the owner of a new hat shop at the mall called Fedorable. I need to hire two people for the sales floor. Of course there are many great qualities that an employee can have. These are my top 5:

1. Punctuality
Being on time is prudent for a smoothly running business. If one person is late to work, then everything gets set behind and everyone is inconvenienced.

2. Good Customer Service
I want to sell as many hats as possible. That simply can not happen if my employees don't pay attention to the customers.

3. Positive Attitude
Not only would an employee have to pay attention to the customers, but they'd need to make a good impression on them. Being upbeat and positive sends a good message about my company and makes gets people to want to buy hats from me.

4. Professional Attitude
An employee should be professional as well as positive. They should take their work seriously.

5. Motivation
If you want to work at my hat store then you'll have to do just that. Work. No sitting around and no goofing off.

Here are five examples of behaviors that might get somebody fired from Fedorable.

1. Being late to work or not showing up.

2. Being rude to customers or other employees.

3. Being disrespectful to me as their boss.

4. Napping on the job.

5. Using company equipment/merchandise for personal use. For example, using the store's computer for personal use/entertainment or playing with the hats that are for sale.
